Northern Edge picks up two awards as BILD announces the best of the best in renovation
Greater Toronto, Feb. 23, 2010 – When the winners of the 2010 BILD Renovation and Custom Building Awards ascended to the podium on February 19, Northern Edge left with two of the six awards up for grabs.
“I was thrilled. I really hoped to win one this year, but I was really surprised to hear my name twice,” explains David Males, president of Northern Edge Construction Services.
The awards were presented at a building industry luncheon that kicked off the National Home Show at Exhibition Place, Toronto.
Northern Edge Construction was entered in two categories and won both -- Best Renovation $75,000 to $150,000 and Best Renovation over $300,000.
The first award recognized a condominium renovation in downtown Toronto.
“Condo renos are different – you have to be creative because of all the restrictions, and you have to be a master scheduler to keep them on track,” explains Males. “Most condo corporations only allow construction work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. so you can’t just put in a few extra hours to get caught up. I was really happy with the way this job turned out – and it was on schedule.”
The second award recognized a 4,000 sq. foot total renovation and second story addition in the city’s east end which is also a finalist in the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Awards, to be announced later this year.
“The before and afters on this job were so dramatic I know that’s what the judges were looking at,” says Males.
“The judges had a very, very difficult time this year resulting in close competition in every category but ultimately, someone has to be the best of the best,” said BILD President and CEO Stephen Dupuis. “On behalf of BILD, I offer my sincerest congratulations to all of this year’s winners.”
